Kavya & Vishnu: To candid conversations!

Hailing from Trivandrum, Kavya was working in Bangalore when lockdown hit in March 2020. Having tried a few dating apps, she decided to give Aisle a try. “The app was different from the other apps I had used before. The interface was very engaging, but the thing that fascinated me was the option to show ‘Mother Tongue’ on the profile. It’s such an underrated detail”. 

It was during the initial days of using the app that she came across Vishnu’s Invite. She decided to check his profile and found a lot in common, apart from their shared hometown. “I normally check the profile, the pictures, and what they’ve written in their bio to get an idea of how the person might be. Sometimes people tend to try too hard, it just comes off as desperate rather than attractive to me. So when I checked his bio, I knew he was different. His language was very candid. But it was his command over the language that had me intrigued” she adds. Kavya decided to reply and duly started talking to Vishnu regularly. 

Since Vishnu was in Trivandrum during the lockdown, they couldn’t meet up. They continued their conversations virtually, getting to know each other better, but Kavya felt something amiss. “We started talking as friends. We had a lot in common, so a lot to connect over. But I felt something was missing and I ended up friend-zoning him. I didn’t exactly feel that romantic connection with him.” Little did Kavya know, their friendship was about to bloom into a beautiful relationship when they meet.

Almost a year into them talking, they finally had the chance to meet up in January 2021. “When he came back to Bangalore, we decided to meet. We met up as friends. But during that meeting, I started to feel something more towards him. We started meeting quite often and things started to change between us. It took meeting him to realize that talking virtually doesn’t convey the whole picture. We both are not that great at communicating through texts so when we met up the gaps were filled. Seeing how he treats other people, the way he looks at me… it just felt right. He was honest about who he was and I was extremely comfortable with him. I felt really bad for friend-zoning him” Kavya chuckles.

She decided to take matters into her own hands. They continued to meet up and she shared that she would like to take the relationship further and Vishnu was more than happy to oblige. Everything fell into place after that.

Having gone through failed marriages, both of them were very sure of what they wanted in their life partner. The whole ordeal just made them stronger so when they found each other, they did not hesitate in taking the relationship to the next level. “He was the first one to take it to his family and they were extremely happy for us. My parents needed a little convincing. We had a bad experience that left us with trust issues, so they were understandably skeptical about the whole thing. But once they met him and got to know him better, they gave us their blessing” Kavya recalls. “We skipped the whole engagement thing and decided to get married” Kavya adds. They officially tied the knot on the 17th of October 2021.

Kavya never really imagined meeting someone through a dating app. “We have a lot in common, we love cooking, traveling, and working out together, although I’m admittedly the lazy one. It’s not just what we have in common, but also the simple things that he does. It was in February this year, we had to take the same train to Bangalore. Though we were unsure about the relationship, he made the person sitting opposite to me switch seats with him, just so that we could talk the whole time. And once we finally confessed, He drove to Bangalore, to spend some time with me. I was under quarantine as my flatmate had Covid, but he decided to risk it. These were all small gestures, but I found them insanely sweet. I mean, who wouldn’t!” she laughs.

“Especially being divorcees, you tend to have trust issues, and the experience will leave you skeptical about a person and their intentions. But I believe one should never shy away from new experiences. When something feels right, you ought to give it a try. You never know what life has in store for you” Kavya adds.
